Manipur on Monday recorded its highest single-day COVID-19 fatalities in 2021 as five more persons succumbed to the viral infection in a span of 24 hours. With it, the state's COVID-19 death toll rose to 390, according to the latest update from the state health department.
The latest COVID-19 victims in Manipur included a 57-year-old-man and a 75 year-old male from Imphal East; a 53-year-old man from Imphal West; 35-year-old man from Churachandpur; and a 53-year-old woman from Thoubal, a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.
As the state continued to witness a surge in daily COVID-19 cases in the wake of the second wave of the pandemic, Manipur recorded another highest single-day spike yet again on Monday. A total of 146 people, including five personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), tested positive for COVID-19 in the state in a span of 24 hours, the release stated.
On Sunday, Manipur reported 140 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily positive cases in 2021.
With the new COVID-19 positive cases on Monday, the cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Manipur rose to 30,567, including 910 active COVID-19 cases and 29,267 recovered cases, the release stated.
Among the new COVID-19 positive cases from the general population, Imphal West reported the maximum cases at 70, followed by Imphal East with 42 cases and Ukhrul with 11 cases. The remaining cases included five from Kakching; four each from Kangpokpi, Thoubal and Bishnupur; and one from Chandel, the release stated.
All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Aditional director and spokesperson, Manipur Health Department, stated in the release.
Meanwhile, air passengers who travelled to the state on April 19, 2021 by Indigo flight 6E-2251 in rows 21-27; on April 21 by Air India flight AI-3713 in rows 12-18; on April 24 by Indigo flight 6E-2615 in rows 22-28, 6E-2251 in rows 13-19; and by Air India flight AI-3713 in rows 1-4 and 9-22 have been asked to inform the Common Covid Control Room at 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) immediately.
It further stated that a total of 1,20979 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccine in Manipur.
All persons above 45 years of age are advised to get vaccinated immediately at vaccination centres of RIMS, JNIMS, district hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and selected private hospitals, the release added.
