Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) employees under the aegis of Teachers Association (TA) and Trained Nurse Association (TNA) on Thursday submitted their resignations over the state's failure to implement 7th Pay Commission.
The development comes a day after talks between the representatives of the employees associations and the state failed.
General secretary TA, Dr S Bikramaditya said representatives of the three associations met Manipur Chief Secretary and advisor to CM (Health) over the demand of the employees.
However, much to the disappointment of the aggrieved employees, the authority informed that they are not entitled to get equal benefits like other employees as they (JNIMS) employees are under JNIMS society.
The state, however, assured that they will implement the 7th Commission pay scale with effect from April 1, 2021, a proposal that has been opposed by the employees, said Dr Bikramaditya.
“The decision of the employees may affect the general public but the employees are left with no other options to get their rights”, he said.
TNA president Th Memcha Devi informed that the function of JNIMS Hospital may be affected as out-patient department (OPD), accident and trauma centre (emergency ward) including operation theaters will be suspended.
The JNIMS hospital is operated by over 250 doctors and 400 trained nurses while there are over 500 employees in non-teaching section.
The staff of non-teaching body is yet to submit their resignation.
JNIMS employees under the aegis of TA, TNA and the Association for All Non-Teaching Staff (AANTS) have been demanding the implementation of 7th Pay Commission, citing that most of the government employees of the state had been given the revised pay since April 2019. Taking this into account, JNIMS employees demanded that 7th pay be provided notionally from January, 1, 2016; with effect from April 1, 2019 and payment in cash of salary from April 1, 2020.
Stressing their demand, the employees had launched several forms of agitation spearheaded by the three JNIMS employees’ associations.
