Civil Voluntary Organisations (CVOs) of Kangpokpi have clarified over the alleged firing of an ambulance by bandh supporters on April 1 evening. They said they are preparing for intense agitations if the charter of demands are not materialised at the earliest.
In a press conference held on Saturday afternoon at the administrative office building of KSO Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi town, the spokesperson of the CVOs said that the allegation made by one Facebook user Hemchandra Ngangom in his status stating “Lamyanba ambulance was shot at Kangpokpi bazar at around 8:25 pm while returning from Guwahati, Manghekam” is baseless. However, it is unfortunate that Chief Minister N Biren Singh considered it seriously and said that the CVOs are 'non-negotiable' in connection with the false allegation, he added.
He continued that the allegation was nothing but an attempt to tarnish the image of Kangpokpi CVOs as during the said hours when the firing of ambulance took place, the bandh had already been relaxed and the bandh supporters were asked to disperse in the presence of Kangpokpi SP.
He recalled that the 36-hour bandh imposed by the CVOs was relaxed at around 7 pm considering the appeal of district in-charge minister Losii Dikho and local MLA Nemcha Kipgen in view of Good Friday and Easter Sunday on religious purposes. He further stated that the CVOs Kangpokpi in its earlier press conference had also clearly mentioned that if any untoward incident happens during the bandh, the sole responsibility will be the state government. However, it does not mean that the alleged firing of the ambulance had occurred on the night of April 1, he added.
He also said that the Kangpokpi CVOs decried the consideration made by the CM against the CVOs’ legitimate demands as non-negotiable due to the baseless allegation of one person in a Facebook post. The act of the government is undemocratic, he added.
Meanwhile, the CVO leaders in its joint meeting resolved that a strong mobilisation drive will be conducted in the coming few days for intense form of agitations if the government fails to fulfil its charter of demands at an early date. It also decided to disclose the date and mode of agitations after the mobilisation drive.
