CRAU Khamnam Bazar sailed off with 1 wicket victory over WYC Thoubal Wangkhem to lift the champion title of the 5th MNCA Plate Cricket Tournament Season 2019-20, played at Model Higher Secondary School & Oriental College Ground, Imphal West.
The WYC Thoubal Wangkhem team after winning the toss, decided to bat first in a limited 40 over match but did not have a bright start as their three top order batsmen failed to deliver. Middle order batsman Priyobrata M tried to lift up the game, hitting 30 runs but lack of partnerships put them to 183 runs for 7 wickets from 40 overs.
Rajesh Singh got 24 runs from 32 deliveries while Shankar fetched 14 runs. Among CRAU bowlers Jotin, Uttan, Ajay claimed 2 wickets each while Rishi bagged 1 wicket.
Chasing the target, CRAU Khamnam Bazar batsman played cautiously, rotating the strike among the top order batsmen with Kh Dennis making 44 runs from 38 balls while Rakesh made 35 runs for a positive start. Bimol contributed 20 runs to reach the desired goal in 38.5 overs losing 9 wickets in the process.
Although the middle order batsman failed to click, tailender Rishi remained unbeaten at 23 runs from 30 balls to guide his team to victory. WYC bowler Priyobrata bagged 3 wickets while Shankar, Rajesh fetched 2 wickets each and Laksmon took 1 wicket.
CRAU batsman Kh Dennis Singh for his hard hitting stance of 44 runs was declared the Man of the Match. CRAU received Rs 1 lakhs as winning prize money while WYC got Rs 70,000 as runners-up along with certificates and trophies.
The Man of the Series was awarded to S Shankar of WYC Thoubal Wangkhem team for his 274 runs and 14 wickets from seven innings with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 while the Highest Run scorer award was given to A Rakesh of CRAU for his 289 runs from seven innings. The Highest wicket takers prize was claimed by Khaikhotinlal Haokip of Muvanlai team. All semi finalist teams were given Rs 25,000 each.
