Film Academy Manipur (FAM) felicitated Guru Rewben Mashangva and Hanjabam ongbi Radhe Sharmi who have been recently conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Awards 2020-21 for their distinguished services in the field of arts.
The felicitation programme was held on Sunday at Manipur Press Club, Imphal in presence of Speaker Yumnam Khemchand, MLA Karam Shyam and president of FAM L Brojendro Singh.
Delivering the chief guest speech, Khemchand lauded Rewben and Radhe for their contribution in uplifting and preserving the Naga folks culture and preserving the arts of making potloi (traditional Manipuri bridal wear), respectively.
He further lauded Rewben for his contribution and bravery in entertaining the inmates of a quarantine centre with his unique Naga folk songs during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conferring Radhe the award also clearly shows that the potloi, which is worn by the bride in every marriage of Meitei and while performing the classical Ras Leela is recognised at the national level with big honour by the Centre, added the Speaker.
Karam Shyam said that it is their effort, contribution and sacrifice in their profession that let them confer with one of the highest national civilian awards.
The MLA asked the youths of the state to follow the spirit of people like Guru Rewben and Hanjabam Radhe in order to become successful in their respective occupations.
