The accused person in the rape case of a four-year-old girl has been remanded to judicial custody by the court of District and Session Judge, Thoubal Friday.

The accused, Md Fayajuddin, 51, son of Tamij Ali of Sangaiyumpham Part II, Langkhong-pat, was in police custody for five days after he was arrested by Thoubal police on Monday.

Meanwhile, locals of the victim’s village stormed the court, demanding to handover the accused to them. While controlling the mob, police fired tear gas shells and three women sustained injury.

The injured persons were identified as one Jiljila, 40, wife of Fazal Karim of Nungfou Keithel; Sahida, 45, wife of Iliaz of Cherapur Makha Leikai; and Parvin, 48, wife of Ayazuddin of Nungfou Keithel. They were given first aid at District Hospital, Thoubal and later discharged.

Convener of the JAC formed in connection with the rape case, Md Azad Khan said that the incident that occurred in the court was unfortunate. The irresponsible act of police personnel that left three women of Meira Paibi injured has been strongly condemned by the JAC, he added.

The minor was allegedly raped at an area under Thoubal police station on February 1. Following it, a press meet was organised on Thursday by the JAC formed in connection with the incident, demanding immediate punishment to the accused person.  It resolved to mount pressure upon the authorities concerned to award death sentence to accused Md Fayajuddin under POCSO Act 2012. An FIR was registered under Section 4 POCSO Act, 2012 concerning the incident, at the Women Police Station Thoubal. The same day, the accused was arrested by the Thoubal Police.

Soon after, the victim underwent consultation with chairperson CWC Thoubal, and was sent back to her family members after taking necessary tests.
