LMS Law College staff stage protest in Imphal

The protest is a part of the agitations initiated by the Ad Hoc Committee of the constituent colleges of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), demanding absorption of the existing teachers of the constituent colleges of DMU before any fresh recruitment of faculty.

The teaching and non-teaching staff of LMS Law College staged a joint sit-in protest at the premises of the college in Imphal on Friday.

The protest is a part of the agitations initiated by the Ad Hoc Committee of the constituent colleges of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) since January 6. The committee had been demanding absorption of the existing teachers of the constituent colleges of DMU before any fresh recruitment of faculty.

Briefing the media during the protest, one guest lecturer of LMS Law College Thingbaijam Linthoi said she has been serving as a guest lecturer in the college for more than 22 years. She said there are only six regular teachers including the principal in the college and the remaining five teachers are guest lecturers.

Linthoi further said that the teachers are not against fresh recruitments but they are demanding that the present guest teachers should be absorbed as regular teachers before the recruitment.

On January 4, the committee had resolved to abstain from online classes for both undergraduate and postgraduate classes from January 5 and to begin to sit-in protest on a rotational basis from January 6 and launch a series of agitations.

The teachers have also staged a joint sit-in protest at DM College of Science on January 6, and they have abstained from online and offline classes for both undergraduate and postgraduate classes since January 5.

The committee has also announced that joint sit-in protests will be held at DM College of Commerce on January 9 and at DM College of Arts on January 11.
