FCI regional office in Manipur upgraded to full-fledged office

The regional office was upgraded under the provision of section 4(2) of the Food Corporation Act, 1964 for setting up of independent regional office.

The regional office of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), Manipur has been upgraded to full-fledged FCI special regional office with headquarter in Imphal.

According to an order issued by FCI its general manager Devesh Kumar Yadav on late Wednesday, the office of will be operated with the existing staff strength and it will be headed by deputy general manager (DGM) (general).

The regional office was upgraded under the provision of section 4(2) of the Food Corporation Act, 1964 for setting up of independent regional office. The approval of competent authority was conveyed vide ministry’s order number 20-2/2012-FC-I on Thursday last, the order read.

Meanwhile, Transporters’ and Driver Council (TDC) expressed its gratitude on the upgradation of the office into a full-fledged regional office.

Addressing the media in a press conference held at its office located at MG Avenue, Imphal TDC president H Ranjit said that the council has been demanding to upgrade the regional office to a full-fledged FCI regional office since 2012.

“In 2012, TDC had demanded to establish  a full-fledged FCI regional office in the state. TDC has submitted a written memorandum towards the then union government and the then state government. As a follow up action of the government the then union minister CAF and PD, KV Thomas announced to establish a 5,000 metric tons capacity godown at Senapati in November, 2013.” Ranjit said.

On February 22, 2014 KV Thomas inaugurated a regional FCI office at old assembly complex, Imphal, Ranjit added.

After six years, the office is upgraded into full-fledged regional office with the initiatives of state CAF and PD minister, Karam Shyam on Wednesday night, he added.

The TDC president expressed gratitude to union minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, state CAF and PD minister, chief minister and chairman-cum-managing director, FCI headquarter, executive director zonal office north east, Guwahati and said that scarcity of food grains will be solved with the upgradation to full-fledged FCI regional office.

Ranjit further added that bus drivers and co-drivers who are engaged in transporting stranded people have been quarantining at hotels. He appealed the drivers and co-drivers to take care of their health and not to use intoxicants at the time of their quarantine period.
