Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress (MPMC) has questioned on what basis Manipur has been awarded the ‘Most Improved Small State (Overall) and Law and Order Award’ at the India Today E-State of the States Conclave and Awards 2020.
Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan, Imphal on Saturday, spokesperson of MPMC Tilotama Loitongbam has pointed out that the annual report of Public Affairs Index-2020 released by the Public Affairs Centre (PAC) on October this year has placed Manipur among the worst performing states under small state category with a negative points of -0.363.
The Public Affairs Centre is a non-profit research think tank based in Bengaluru, Karnataka and the organisation is headed by former chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation, K Kasturirangan, she added.
She further alleged that the BJP-led state government even utilised UG groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) during the recent assembly by-elections. Tilotama also claimed that rape, suicide cases and unemployment rate is increasing under the present government and it has not been able to deal with the increasing number of COVID19 positive cases in the state.
Are such situations a sign of improvement in law and order of the state? Tilotama questioned.
She said that the state government had also assured that a separate COVID-19 hospital will be set up for the state, however there is no sign of it till date. Moreover, during the initial stage of the pandemic, the Prime Minister had assured that rice will be distributed to the people however it has been discontinued in the state since the month of July except for ration card holders, she added.
Mentioning about the ‘Go to Village’ mission initiated by the state government, Tilotama said that there has been no exceptional case taken up by the government under the mission. The state government extended its help to the people only when the media had exposed it, she added.
Even in the year 2019, India Today had awarded ‘Inclusive Development Award’ to the state government, and there is a doubt that whether the state government has any internal relation with India Today group, Tilotama said.
