Manipur Minister Vungzagin Valte, state officials inspect proposed site of new medical college in Churachandpur

Vungzagin said that the new medical college will have an intake of 100 seats for MBBS and will be constructed over an area of 25 acres.

A joint inspection team led by Manipur Minister Vungzagin Valte visited the site of the proposed medical college near Mata village in Churachandpur Sunday. The team also surveyed the approach road to the college.

The TA and Hills, Transport and GAD minister was accompanied by officials of the state, including additional chief secretary (Work), P Vaiphei, principal secretary (Heath), Vunglunmang Vualnam, deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, Churachandpur, officials from MPHC and PWD and medical department of the state and Churachandpur district.

The joint team studied the area to submit a report to the chief minister to build the medical college as early as possible.

Speaking to media persons at the site, Vungzagin said that the new medical college will have an intake of 100 seats for MBBS and will be constructed over an area of 25 acres.

"The construction work will start as soon as possible for the benefit of the young generations," he added.

The minister also surveyed the best approach road to be constructed with a minimum width of 12 metres from Tedim Road.  

The medical college is funded by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry. The approach road to the college will be managed by the PWD and the construction of a medical college by the Manipur Police Housing Corporation.

The Health and Family Welfare Ministry has approved and sanctioned Rs 325 crore for the construction of the medical college. The first instalment has been released to the state government.
