The inspection was carried out as a part of the drive by JCCWB with an aim to protect wildlife and environment in the state.

During the inspection visit, convenor of JCCWB and secretary of Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC), Manipur, Romesh Ningthoujam said that every living things has its own end naturally. If humans defy the law of nature, there are high chances that the entire earth vanishes one day, he added.

He continued that on March 22, a team of JCCWB had appealed to the state government and Forest department, through social media and local dailies, to look into the matter in Heibok Ching as the hill has lost its charm of being natural. However, instead of protecting the environmental values in Heibok Ching and also in other hilly areas, the authority concerned is more on ruining it, he added.

Last year, on World Environment Day, the state chief minister had given his assurance to restore and preserve Heibok Ching but nothing has been put into action so far. The present condition of hills in the state is highly deplorable and the state forest department is almost paralysed to take care of them, said Romesh.
