Highest number of single-day positive cases of COVID-19 in Tamenglong district of Manipur was recorded on Sunday after 17 family members of a health worker tested positive for the disease.
Reportedly, the family members (joint family) suffered from flu. Following the report, the house of the health worker, who also got Covid-19, has been sealed and the area declared a containment zone by the district administration.
One more case is suspected to be COVID-19 positive and testing has been done but the result is yet to be confirmed till the time of filing this report.
With the detection of 17 new positive cases on Sunday, COVID-19 positive cases in the district have surged to 56. Several staff of the hospital were found positive for Covid-19 in the past few months.
On September 26, after another health staff who was on duty at the Tamenglong district hospital, Digailong, was detected with coronavirus, as a part of the Covid-19 containment measures, the OPD and IPD and immunisation cell of the hospital remained closed for 48 hours, said the chief medical officer through a notification.
Meanwhile, in Noney district, total lockdown has been imposed by Longmai Bazar Board from Sunday afternoon at Longmai bazaar. The lockdown will be enforced till the contact tracing activity and containment measures is over.
The total lockdown was imposed after staff of Manipur Rural Bank, Noney Branch and one staff of Manipur Development Financial Investment, Noney branch were tested positive for COVID-19 at Babina Testing Centre, Imphal.
Chief medical officer of Noney, Dr Edwin Golmei has appealed to all the staffs of Manipur Rural Bank, Noney branch and any individual, who have visited the bank between September 22 and September 25, to report and get tested at Tengkonjang Higher Secondary School Testing Centre, Noney immediately and also advised to wear mask and follow SOPs strictly.
