Manipuri martial art form ‘Thouri Leikoi’ thrills audience in Imphal

The martial art form was presentation by the Kanglei Enat Thang-Ta Sindam Shanglen of Kongpal Chanam Leikai.

Thouri Leikoi’, a martial art presentation by the Kanglei Enat Thang-Ta Sindam Shanglen of Kongpal Chanam Leikai sponsored by Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi was conducted on Thursday at KCDO hall in Imphal-East.

The teacher of Kanglei Enat Thang-Ta Sindam Shanglen, L Ibungomacha stated that ‘Thouri Leikoi’ is a kind of war weapon used in olden days. It is also used as a presentation in many big celebrations or occasions in the state, he stated.

The programme was attended by Thang-TaState Kala Akademy state awardee, L Ibomcha along with KETTSS president, T Birachandra, Malem Apunba Thang-Ta Maheikol advisor, I Ibomcha and many others.

Meanwhile, in Thoubal, a two-day festival cum workshop on Manipuri Thang -Ta kicked off Thursday at Heirok part II Mayai leikai Community Hall. The workshop is being organised by The Divine Universe Human Unit Cultural Academy, Heirok part II Mayai leikai and it will end on Friday.

The event witnessed a strict maintenance of standard operating procedures and guidelines given by the government as only 10 participants took part at the said workshop. Convenor, DUHUCA, Heirok Kh Tomba Meitei; pradhan, Heirok part II GP Th Bhanumati and vice president, DUHUCA, Heirok N Ibomcha Meitei attended the event as presidium members. As a part of the workshop, the students of the Academy demonstrated Martial arts, Pung Cholom etc.
