A release stated, “The road along the National Highway 150 from Ukhrul to Jessami, about 110 kms had been forsaken in terms of roadside clearance and maintenance. The road has been left unattended for about a year now. It is pertinent that the security of the people along the National Highway cannot be put at risk. Various road accidents have occurred due to the ill maintenance of the road leading to multiple losses of precious lives”.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, the TNWL urges the state government for immediate intervention and take up appropriate action at the earliest, added the release.

Due to non maintenance, the drainage along the highway has been blocked, it stated. One can witness water running in the middle of the road whenever it rains. This has also resulted in an occurrence of landslides at various places along the highway, which is the lifeline of the people from the northern part of Ukhrul district. Due to landslides between Harkui Kathe and BRTF, vehicles are facing difficulties while plying the highway, it stated. TNWL has called upon the authority concerned to take up appropriate action at the earliest, it added.
