Among the returnees is one J'mi Shimrah of Alungtang village with a spinal cord injury who had gone to Delhi for speech therapy. His mother Ningkhalem Shimrah narrated to this correspondent that her son J'Mi Shimrah was hit by a swift car in 2014 near Manipur University Gate. He underwent treatment for spinal cord injury at ICU Shija.

However, he remained in coma for some time and when he came out of it, he lost his speech. Since then, he has been undergoing treatment at different places and since November 2019, he was undergoing treatment for voice therapy at Ber Sarai, New Delhi. He has to come home as his therapist could not visit him anymore amid lockdown.

He came back with two of his sisters who were taking care of him in Delhi. Learning of his predicament, the COVID-19 Management Committee of Ukhrul assembly constituency has arranged a separate room attached with toilet for him and his sisters at the quarantine centre at Khaivaren.

The family had been providing free shelter to many people who came to Ukhrul for medical treatment and could not afford their stay in rentals.
