Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday submitted an application for filing a case against Sagolband MLA RK Imo and Saikul MLA Yamthong Haokip to the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly so that they may be disqualified under 10th Schedule of Indian Constitution.

Speaking to the media, MPCC general secretary S Jeeten said that the MPCC has filed the case by praying for the disqualification of two MLAs who had left the Indian National Congress (INC) on November 8.

The application was submitted before the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly through his private secretary.

The two MLAs, namely RK Imo and Yamthong Haokip had left INC on November 8, he said. As per the application, they are to be disqualified under the 10th Schedule of Indian Constitution and article 199 of Indian Constitution.

Jeeten further expressed belief that if the speaker respects the Indian Constitution and follows the rules and regulation of the Indian Constitution, then he will not take time on disqualifying them.

Responding to a query concerning the disqualification of 11 MLAs, Jeeten said that the Supreme Court had fixed December 9 for the governor of Manipur to issue a response. On December 9, the Supreme Court will decide according to the situation, he added.
