The Thangal Bazaar Ngari Galli Ima Lup on Sunday expressed their opposition to the construction of a seating area on the side of the street, stating that the construction would make it more congested than it was before.
A release stated that the street is already narrow and difficult for even the fire brigade to pass through in case of fire.
School vans, private vehicles, etc. also face difficulties to pass through the street, it said. The construction of seating areas will only add to the congestion and even closure of some shops whether owned by a local or non local, it stated.
This has caused tension among the shopkeepers who depend on the shops for their livelihood, it added.
The Lup has appealed to the government to allow the shops to be opened and to bring in consensus about the construction of the seating area.
