The Thoubal district police apparently are groping in the dark in connection with the assault of a senior journalist of the district, allegedly perpetrated by Heirok Block Congress Workers.
A senior police official of the district told Imphal Free Press (IFP) that the district police are relentlessly conducting operations to nab the culprits involved in the attack.
The victim, Elangbam Rameshwor, sustained injuries when he was allegedly attacked by a group of people identifying themselves as Heirok Block Congress Workers on October 24 morning at his residence, Heirok Part-II. Rameshwor is the Thoubal correspondent of ‘Naharolgi Thoudang’ vernacular. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged by the police following a complaint filed by the victim’s younger brother, who also gave names of 13 individuals involved in the attack. However, the police concerned is yet to arrest anyone in connection with the incident.
On Tuesday, taking the opportunity of a press conference held at Congress Bhawan regarding the recent Palace Compound incident, IFP sought comments from MPCC on the attack on the scribe by its workers. However, MPCC spokesperson N Bhupenda evaded comments.
Bhupenda said, "Let's specifically focus only on BJP and RSS. Please raise questions only on this topic. We may have a separate press conference later."
While condemning any form of violence, the spokesperson said such a question of ‘attack on scribe’ was to be raised to the ruling government led by BJP for it is a matter of “law and order”.
"We strongly condemn any form of violence anywhere and that has to be the message of the party to the people. The BJP-led Government is in power and not the Congress. One should raise this question to the chief minister, home minister, DGP of Manipur. Congress party is not in control of law and order here in the state and that is the whole point,” said the MPCC spokesperson while replying to queries raised by the IFP reporter.
