Manipur governor pays maiden visit to Churachandpur
Governor La Ganesan said that among the districts of Manipur, visiting the hill districts is his main priority so as to learn the various traditions and culture of the state.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan made his maiden visit to Churachandpur district on Saturday and a grand reception was held at the multipurpose hall of Mini Secretariat, organised by the district administration headed by deputy commissioner, Pawan Yadav.

During the reception programme, the governor said that among the districts of Manipur, visiting the hill districts is his main priority so as to learn the various traditions and culture of the state. He said that Churachandpur is his second visit among hill districts after Chandel.

Speaking on COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state, Ganesan said that there are three major ways people need to practice such as keeping distance, putting on masks and early vaccination. He also said that with the prompt action taken by the government to fight the pandemic, the rate of positive cases is declining. However, people must keep their surroundings clean and maintain proper hygiene to prevent other diseases.

Stating the importance of Swachh Bharat Mission in elimination of open defecation, the governor expressed his satisfaction at the performance of the state in making the campaign a success on a larger scale.

Lauding the state for excellence in sports, and art and culture, he urged the children and youngsters to get engaged in sports activities which help them in maintaining good health.

"I am happy to be the governor of Manipur which has many representatives in the Olympics. Do remember your past and history as it has many things to teach you. History has taught you ways and means of living. Learn from the past and adapt to the changes in the present that you may grow in the future,” said Ganesan. 

The Centre has initiated schemes like Van Dhan Yojana and Vikas Yojana under Tribal Affairs Ministry to improve income through value addition of products wherein one can display skills and abilities and converted into income, he highlighted.

During the programme, cultural items by different cultural troupes were also showcased.

IGP and special secretary to governor HT Gangte; DIG-III LM Haokip; commander of 27 Sector AR Brig Ashish Ranjan; CO of 1st IRB Lunkhomang Khongsai; SP of Pherzawl David S Piaklian; CO of 2nd IRB Priyadarshni; and DLOs of Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts also attended the programme.
