The nine horses held at Tengnoupal police station were brought to Imphal by veterinary officials and they have been confirmed to be ‘thoroughbred’ horses, not Manipuri ponies after verification.

Director, state veterinary and animal husbandry Ch Nandakishore said the horses are kept separately at Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, Lamphel. Veterinary experts have verified that the horses are not Manipuri pony breeds. It is learnt that the horses were bought from Pune.

A ‘Thoroughbred’ is a kind of horse breed that are commonly used in horse racing and they are known for their agility, speed and spirit.
