Justice Kh Nobin on Friday appealed to the media fraternity of Manipur to extend their support in delivering the legal rights to the people, especially the sections settling in off-grid areas of the state.
He was speaking to the media during the releasing ceremony of ‘Khangminnasi Eikhoi’ a legal awareness film which has elements of comedy, and the flagging-off ceremony of a legal awareness campaign through a mobile utility van at the High Court of Manipur Judges' Guest House in Imphal West.
Nobin said that the Constitution of India has given the rights to justice and equality to every citizen. It is the duty of the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) to ensure the rights of the public, he added.
As the media can reach every nook and cranny of the state, they play a vital role in spreading awareness to the public about their legal rights, he further said.
He also expressed the need of collaborating MASLSA with the media to provide necessary legal aid so that no stone is left unturned in providing the rights of a citizen granted by the Constitution.
Director and scriptwriter of ‘Khangminnasi Ekhoi’ Thoudam Rohinikumar said that the film on legal awareness was released with the ideal of encouraging more mediation and intervention of other ADR (alternative dispute resolutions) in Manipur.
The programme was a part of the National Legal Services Authority's Pan India Awareness and Special Outreach Campaign which started on October 2 in relation with the celebration of 75th years of Independence. It will continue till November 14.
It was also attended by chairperson of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Imphal West A Guneshwar Sharma, chairperson of DLSA Imphal East RK Memcha Devi and member secretary of MASLSA Ojesh Mutum.
