The Fast Track Special Court (POCSO), Manipur on Thursday sentenced a 55-year-old man convicted of raping a six-year-old girl to 10 years and five months in jail under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

The convict from Imphal West district is said to be related to the victim. As per the report submitted before the court by the investigating officer, the incident took place on May 9, 2016 when the convict called the minor inside his room to bring some food and raped her.

As the convict has already been in jail for five years, the court cut down the jail term of 10 years imprisonment to five years and five months with compensation of Rs 1,000 to be paid to the victim.

The statement of the minor victim, prosecution witnesses and medical reports proved that the accused had committed the offence against the minor, the court stated. With these observations, the court convicted the accused under section 6 of POCSO Act, 2012.
