Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) on Tuesday announced that it will begin a campaign to look into the issues of digging and excavation of land, and deforestation in the hilly zones situated in the valley.

It will be a part of an academic campaign of MSF under the slogan ‘Sanghanlasi Manipur’ (Greener Manipur), MSF stated in a release.

People are aware that excavation work and digging of land in the hills, and deforestation have led to soil erosion. However, many hills situated in the valley areas are excavated in the name of development which has led to soil erosion, landslides and sinkholes during the rainy season, MSF stated.

It stated that killing of birds and other animal species, which have a role to play in the environment, along with deforestation have led to ecological imbalances.
