Launching the Phase II of the ‘Shanghallashi Iramdam’ programme on Sunday, volunteers of the Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) took up a mass tree plantation drive at Nongmaiching Hill Range in Nongdan Ipudhou Sanglen in Imphal East.
As many as 250 tree saplings were planted around the campus of the Nongdan Ipudhou Sanglen on the launching day of the programme.
Speaking to the media, CCSK president Jeetendra Ningomba said around 15,000 tree saplings were planted by CSSK during the first phase of the programme in 2022 in collaboration with various villages.
As they collaborated with the surrounding villagers to ensure routine watering of the plant, the maximum of those saplings planted in the past are growing well, he added.
Drawing the attention of the villages, which are willing to volunteer for such tree sapling plantation drives, he said: “Lets us work together to reshape the ecological balance, which has been degraded by humans in the past on account of many reasons such as poppy plantation,” the president appealed to the people of Manipur.
