Speaking on the occasion, senior wildlife officer Mordecai Panmei said that TCF provided torch lights, rain coats and gumboots to forest officials in the district as a gesture of support to the forest patrolling team, under its ‘Safeguarding bio-diversity’ project.

Panmei said that in view of the globally increasing problems of deforestation and loss of wildlife habitats, the project is dedicated to restoring wildlife habitats.

Highlighting their activities, Panmei said that TCF has implemented wildlife conservation programmes in over 400 villages in Corbett, Kutch, Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Kaziranga since 1994. Since 2018, its programmes have been implemented in Tamenglong district of Manipur as well.

“The Corbett Foundation has been educating the community on nature conservation by providing alternate means of livelihood to make the community part of the conservation process, to restore the wildlife habitats by de-weeding of invasive plants and plantation of native plants over 20 hectares of degraded patches,” Panmei said.

The programmes look at a holistic approach towards conservation, and it addresses the needs of the forest dwellers and their dependency on forest resources, he added.
