Forest Minister Th Biswajit Singh on Friday flagged off the month-long environment campaign, “12th Mahousha Ema Ningsing Tha” in connection with World Environment Day 2022 under the UN theme “Only one Earth” organised by Royal Riders Manipur (RRM) at WAL United Youth’s Club ground, Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Imphal East.

Speaking on the occasion, Biswajit appreciated the members of RRM for taking such steps of tree plantation at three different districts of the state. He urged the members to plant tree saplings at far flung places of hilly areas and not just in valley areas.

He also suggested that RRM involve experts from the forest department while carrying out the tree plantation programme so that the experts could spread awareness to the public on the benefits of plantation of trees and to avoid deforestation.

The minister also sought a week’s time so that the department could arrange a programme on tree plantation along with the members of RRM. State government is ready to cooperate with the people on the movement of tree plantation in order to bring a green environment, he said.

He said the state government has decided not to address hill people or valley people but have instead decided to name the respective districts. He further said there are many bikers clubs like RRM and suggested all the bikers’ clubs to come under one umbrella in order to provide more service for the welfare of the people.

Minister Biswajit also handed over a sum of Rs. 50,000 to the president of RRM as financial assistance for the tree plantation programme which is conducted at three districts. The tree plantation programme was held at Chanambam Ibomcha College, Bishnupur; Ram Krishna Vivekananda College, Andro and Thoubal College, Thoubal.
