Tripura Assembly Election 2023: Over 32 per cent voter turnout recorded till 11 am

Polling for 60-member Tripura Assembly is underway in 3,337 polling stations to decide the fate of 259 candidates

Tripura recorded a voter turnout of 32.11 per cent till 11 am in the ongoing state Assembly election, with over 28.14 lakh voters exercising their franchise.

Polling for the 60-member Tripura Assembly started at 7 am and will continue till 4 pm across 3,337 polling stations.

The results of the election will decide the fate of 259 candidates in the 13th Legislative Assembly election of Tripura.

The total 259 candidates in the fray included 20 women candidates.

Among the participating parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded 55 candidates, including 12 women candidates while its ally IPFT will be contesting in six assembly seats.

The Congress party is contesting in 13 assembly constituencies, while the CPM is contesting in 47 seats.

The Tipra Motha will contest in 42 assembly seats, the Trinamool Congress in 28 constituencies.

A total of 58 others are independent candidates.

The counting of votes will be conducted on March 2, and the results will be declared the same day.

The term of the present Tripura Assembly will end on March 22.

The BJP had won the election for the first time in 2018, putting an end to the 25-year Left rule in Tripura.

Meanwhile, a special inter-agency team was constituted to control illegal drugs in the state. Following it Rs 14.12 crore worth of Ganja cultivation has been destroyed so far in Tripura.
