Tripura Assembly Election 2023: Bru migrants vote for first time

Over 51 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 1 pm in the ongoing Tripura election 2023.

Bru migrants on Thursday exercised their franchise for the first time in Tripura in the ongoing Assembly elections. 

Taking to Twitter, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said the Bru migrants from Mizoram were seen coming out in large numbers to cast their votes for the first time in the Tripura Assembly election 2023, after they were resettled in the state. In 1997, the Bru community fled from Mizoram due to ethnic violence.

"Bru migrant voters are able to exercise their franchise after many years due to rehabilitation & registration of voters in Tripura. They are seen coming out in large numbers in Haduklaupara in 47 Ambassa Assembly Constituency in Dhalai district," the ECI tweeted.

Meanwhile, over 51 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 1 pm. Voting will continue till 4 pm.
