Hangzhou Games silver medallist Wushu player Naorem Roshibina Devi was accorded a warm reception by SAI NERC, Imphal at New MP Hall, Takyelpat on Thursday.
The young player Roshibina Devi secured the silver medal after she was beaten by host China opponent Xiaowei Wu with a score of 2-0 points in the final of Women 60kg Sanda event in the 19th Asian Games 2023 currently being held at Hangzhou, China.
The grand reception at MP Hall at SAI NERC was attended by YAS Director, T Phulen Meitei, SAI-STC Deputy Director, L Ibomcha Singh among others.
In the 19th Asian Games 2023, Naorem Roshibina Devi got a bye in the first round and went on to beat Mubashra Akhtar of Pakistan in the quarter final match to book her semi-final berth. She beat Thi Thu Thuy Nguyen of Vietnam in the semi-final by 2-0 point verdict, to sail into the final.
Roshibina Devi had better showing this time at Hangzhou as compared to Asian Games at Jakarta in 2018 as she managed to bag a bronze medal on that occasion.
YAS Director T Phulen Meitei and SAI-STC Deputy Director, L Ibomcha Singh showered heavy praises on Roshibina Devi for her effort in the 19th Asian Games as she was competing against best among the best of Asia continent, which is no means an easy task.
Naorem Roshibina Devi said that though she was feeling good about winning the silver medal, she will try harder and make more effort in seeking the gold medal in her future endeavors. 'I will train harder and play better in the future'.
Naorem Roshibina Devi landed Thursday morning at the Imphal International Airport, Tulihal much to the fanfare of the Wushu official and players and family members. She was accorded a hero welcome with garland and praises from those gathered at the Airport.
