UP Hockey, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand ride into semi finals

The 12th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship 2022 was held at Hockey Stadium, Khuman Lampak on Thursday.

Uttar Pradesh Hockey upset Hockey Chandigarh by 5-0 goals to move into the semi final of the 12th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship 2022 at Hockey Stadium, Khuman Lampak on Thursday.

Taking on the formidable Chandigarh team, Uttar Pradesh Hockey left no stone unturned right from the first whistle but were unable to bring changes in the goal statistic as the first two quarters rendered goalless.

Learning their lesson well, Uttar Pradesh Hockey gave a hard time to Chandigarh Hockey and earned their break from a penalty corner in the 32nd minute of play and Suneeta Kumari converted it to goal for the lead.

Boosted by the goal, Uttar Pradesh increased the pace and added two quick goals with Puspanjali Sonkar fetching the second goal in the 35th minute and later Purnima Yadav converted a penalty corner in the 39th minute to tighten their grip in the match.

Although Chandigarh Hockey did miss some easy chances from misdirected hits, Uttar Pradesh Hockey jumped upon every opportunity and it was left to Vandana Patel who shot home the fourth goal in 46th from a field goal and Purnima Yadav repeated her good form, hitting the winning goal in 56th minute.

In the other matches, Hockey Haryana beat Hockey Mizoram by 4-1 goals to sail into the semi final as well. Pooja strucks twice while Shashi Khasa and Riya scored a goal each for Haryana. The lone goal for Mizoram came from the stick of Lalpeksangi.

Hockey Madhya Pradesh also booked their semi final berth beating Hockey Maharashtra by 2-1 goals. Tahur Naaz and Gungun Kaur scored for Madhya Pradesh while Sanika Chandrakant Mane fetched the lone goal for Maharashtra team.

Hockey Jharkhand beat Hockey Punjab by 4-1 goals to claim a place in the semi final. For Jharkhand, Nisha Minj struck two goals while Sweety Dungdung and Binima Dhan chipped in with a goal each. The lone goal for Punjab was scored by Lakhvir Kaur.
