The students of UNACCO School, Meitram, are set to make Manipur proud as they gear up to represent the state in the 51st Nehru Junior Hockey Tournament (U-17) in the Boys Category, scheduled to be held in Delhi from October 23 to November 2.
This achievement comes after the boys' team of the school clinched victories at both the district and state levels, securing their place in this prestigious All India Inter School Hockey Tournament. Notably, their stellar performance in the 50th Nehru Junior Hockey Tournament (U-17) in Boys Category in 2022 earned them a direct entry into this year's quarter-final stage.
In addition to the boys' team, the girls' team of UNACCO School also represented Manipur in the 29th Nehru Girls Hockey Tournament for Girls in the U-17 category.
They reached the semi-finals in the tournament held in Delhi from October 1 to 11.
The flag-off ceremony for the boys' team took place at the school campus in Meitram, Imphal West, on a Saturday and was graced by the presence of N Irabanta, the managing director of UNACCO.
During the event, Irabanta highlighted that UNACCO School not only excels in academics but also shines in sports.
He proudly mentioned that this is the second consecutive year the school's boys' team is participating in the prestigious Nehru Junior Hockey Tournament.
Irabanta also revealed that the school's swimming instructor will serve as the Swimming Coach of Manipur at the upcoming 37th National Games, 2023 in Goa.
Moreover, three students from UNACCO School, Khongman, will represent Manipur in the 37th National Games.
To further exhibit their sports prowess, UNACCO School is set to participate in the Zonal level CBSE Swimming Competition in Guwahati, commencing from October 27, with the school's instructor acting as the team coach, he added.
