Sagolband United spelled doomed for AIM Khabam beating by 6-0 goals to sail into the semi final of the 14th Manipur State League 2021 played at Artificial Turf, Lamlong Thongkhong. As for the last quarter final match, UKB Churchandpur proved too good for KIYC Khetrigao with 2-0 goals win over the latter, to book their semi final berth as well.

AIM Khabam fate seems doomed from the start as their strategy never really worked despite numerous efforts. However, the injury prone Sagolband United got the act together in the 18 minute of play when Patrick Kamei came up with the opening goal.

The show stealer of the day belonged to Sagolband United player Paokhongam as he outwitted AIM defense twice in the first half to slam home in 32 minute and 43 minute to dominate the proceedings.

With three goals down, AIM Khabam still failed to ignite their sparks in the second half, aggravating their position further in the game. But Sagolband United rose again and this time, Paokhongam proved even menacier as he banged home three more goals in 60 minute, 62 minute and 67 minute to bring up his hattrick goal for the convincing victory, enroute to the semi final.

Two AIM Khabam players Bikash Yumnam, Ch. Akashkumar and SU player Henry received yellow cards from referee Th. Arun.

The other match between UKB Churchandpur and KIYC saw the former outwitting the latter by quick moves. KIYC had a close chance in the early part of the game but Churchandpur keeper was quite under the bar, to deny the shot to goal.

However, UKB opens up in 17 minute of play when Mangkholen running in the goalmouth anticipated a well directed cross from the right, to slice in a header for the opening goal.

The UKB who were quick in their short passes, got a shock in the 35 minute when Manglenboi was sent off with a red card by referee Sh.Suresh from double caution-one received from a foul and other for deliberate handling the ball, reducing them to ten men.

But UKB overcame the sad phase with much more aggressive attack and came up with their second goal from a free kick in 45 plus 1 minute with Lalminlun sending a well directed aerial ball over the leaping keeper to take 2-0 lead. Despite KIYC making a late minute surge, they failed to produce any goal and made a sad exit.

UKB players Lalminlun and KIYC player L. Amit Singh got a yellow card each in the match for dangerous play. The semi final matches will be played on Friday with KLASA Keinou taking on Sagolband United at 11.45 am while SSU Singjamei will meet UKB Churchandpur at 1.45 pm.
