Shaheed Manoranjan Memorial CRPF Football Tournament: SU, YUFC Ukhrul, KSC Kangpokpi sail into quarter finals

Sagolband United moved to the quarter final in style, thrashing AFC Thoubal by 5-0 goals in the 12th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament 2021-22 played at Turf Ground, SAI Sports Complex, Takyel.

AFC Thoubal showed their aggression quite early in the game but Sagolband United kept their poise intact in the first twenty minutes of the play. But the situation changed when Sagolband United came up with the opening goal in the 29th minute from Ch Anandkumar and the very next minute saw, Paokhongam fetching the second goal in the 30th minute.

With two goals down, AFC made a frenzied approach, trying to get back to the match for the equaliser, but luck willed otherwise as Kh Oken was sent off with a red card from double booking by referee N Ibungo in the 45th minute, bringing the strength to 10 men in the field.

Making cautious moves in the second half, Sagolband United waited for a loose end and they got it in the 88th minute when Chrishtopher slammed home the third goal, to dominate the proceedings.

With Chrishtopher raring to go even deeper, he banged home two more goals in the injury time of 90 plus 2 and 90 plus 5 minute to romp home with the huge win, enroute to the quarter final.

Two AFC Thoubal players Ch Gobin, Shahidur and SU player Lunminthang Haokip got booked with yellow cards for reckless foul.

YUFC Ukhrul also proved their mettle, beating RAU Lairikyengbam Leikai by 2-0 goals to sail into the quarter final as well. Rungsing Muinao scored the opening goal in 20th minute and later, Julian Keishing fetched the winning goal in the 71st minute of play.

Two YUFC players Deniel Shatsang, H Abungo and RAU player Ramsen Kaiwang received yellow cards in the match.

On the other hand, Kuki Sporting Club, Kangpokpi got the better of SSU Singjamei by a solitary goal, to book their quarter final berth. The lone winning goal was delivered by H Robinson Khongsai in the 38th minute of play. Three SSU players N Suhsilkumar, Ch Commander, M Kabiraj got yellow cards in the match.

The next matches, which are the quarter finals, will begin from January 20 with KSC Kangpokpi taking on NACO Nambul Mapal at 10.30 am while Classic FA will face Neroca FC at 1.30 pm.
