President Ram Nath Kovind presents Padma Shri to Manipur's Oinam Bembem Devi

President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday presented Padma Shri to footballer Oinam Bembem Devi from Manipur for Sports.

Oinam Bembem Devi, popularly known as the Durga of Indian Football, is the former captain of the Indian women's football team.

“President Kovind presents Padma Shri to Ms Oinam Bembem Devi for Sports. She is the former captain of the Indian women's football team and is also known as "Durga of Indian football", a Twitter handle of the President posted.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also took to Twitter and congratulated Oinam.

“Congratulations to Oinam Bembem Devi, the Durga of Indian Football, on receiving the Padma Shri Award. It is truly a moment of pride for all of us in Manipur. May you continue to inspire the young girls and boys to pursue their dreams,” Biren tweeted.

Several personalities from different fields were honoured with Padma Shri awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan today by President Ram Nath Kovind. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were also present at the occasion.
