Manipur fencers bagged three gold and one silver medal in the 30th Junior National Fencing Championship 2022-23 held at Cuttack, Odisha from June 29 to July 2.
The fencers who clinched the gold medals are W Sonia Devi in Foil Individual, L Abi Devi in Sabre Individual and the girls from Foil Team event. The lone Silver was bagged by S Hemash from Foil Individual.
The Manipur Fencing Association also congratulated H Suranjoy (Epee), Omi Chanu who accompanied as team Coaches and G Somorendro Sharma as team manager.
Cairo World Fencing Championship: Khusboorani, Anita in Indian squad
Two women fencers and a coach from the state found their place in the Indian squad for the World Fencing Championship, 2022 to be held at Cairo, Egypt from July 15-23.
The two women fencers who got selected in the Indian Senior (Men's and Women's) Fencing Team are Khusboorani Laishram and Anita Phandom in the Foil Team. SAI Imphal coach Ibomcha Singh is among the six coaches selected to guide the team.
It can be mentioned that the Fencing Association of India has selected 24 fencers including 12 women to represent India in the World Fencing Championship. Bharatji Thakor will lead as team manager while the FAI also named nine other support staff including six coaches for the meet.
