NAKSAM annual sports meet cum conference begins

Altogether, 50 teams including youth, veterans, and women's football teams from the Northern Kuki areas in the Kangpokpi district will take part in the event.

The 47th Annual Sports Meet cum Conference of Northern Area Kuki Sports Association Manipur (NAKSAM) began on Monday at (L) H Ngailut playground in South Changoubung village in Kangpokpi district.

The event is being organised to promote unity, peace, and harmony among the people in the northern area of the district through games and sports, and cultural exchange programs that can highlight Kuki youths the rich diversity and uniqueness of their culture.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Thanglenlal Doungel, a social worker, as Chief Guest while Lamminlen Hangshing, a social worker, and Paokai Chongloi, President, NAKSAM attended as Guest of Honour and Functional President respectively.

To mark the inauguration of the event, the chief guest hoisted the NAKSAM flag while he also kicked in the ball inside the ground to mark the opening of the football matches.

Thanglenlal Doungel emphasized the importance of proper time management, especially by the youth, and motivated them to take sports not only from a professional perspective but to promote peace and tranquility in the society.

Lamminlen Hangshing also encouraged the youth of the Northern Kuki areas to excel at national and international levels by maintaining discipline.

A condolence to pay tribute to the departed leaders of NAKSAM and players of NAKSAM's annual sports meet, led by NAKSAM Secretary, Thangsei, was also observed during the function after Ashong Lotzem, local Pastor dedicated the annual sports cum conference.

The inaugural match between North Changoubung Youth Club and Jamsat Songtun Youth Club 'C' team kicked off after the inspection of players by the dignitaries.

Altogether, 50 teams including youth, veterans, and women's football teams from the Northern Kuki areas in the Kangpokpi district will take part in the event.

Twenty-five youth football teams were grouped into six pools with four teams each in a pool while twelve veteran teams were clubbed together in four pools with three teams each in a pool.

Similarly, the twelve women's football teams are divided into four pools with three teams each in a pool.
The inaugural match between the J. Songtun Youth Club 'C' team and North Changoubung ended in a goalless draw.

In the second match, S Phoibung dubbed Hengbung Youth Club 'C' team 2-1. Lungoumang (20th), and Sehgouhao (75th) scored for S Phoibung Youth Club and Bijoy (30th) scored for Hengbung Youth Club 'C' team.

On Tuesday, J Songtun Youth Club (A) team will play Lungphoi Youth Club(B) in the first match, Maohing Youth Club will play Lhangnomphai Youth Club in the second match, North Changoubung Youth Club will play S Phoibung Youth Club in the third match, South Changoubung Youth Club (A) team will play Lungphou Youth Club(B) team in the fourth match, Hengbung Youth Club (A) team will play T. Tuinom Youth Club in the fifth match while Haijang Youth Club will play Taphou Youth Cluv (A) team in the last match.
