Mukna stadium, Astro turf football field coming up in Senapati

An Astro turf football field is being developed at Senapati town stadium and Rs 7-crore Mukna - a form of indigenous wrestling - stadium is coming up, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said in a social media post.

"Our senapati district football lovers will be provided an Astro turf football field at senapati town Stadium itself. Another 7-crore indigenous wrestling (MUKNA) stadium also coming up and under construction now," CM Biren captioned a video post of the Astro turf on Facebook.

Senapati, one of the hill districts in Manipur, is located about 62 km from state capital Imphal, along the National Highway No-2.

Recently, the chief minister informed that seven artificial football turfs were being constructed in major hill districts of the state, and seven locations in Manipur had been identified to construct new grass ground for football.

“Grass grounds are more suited for athletes in real matches as such the plan for construction was incepted”, he had said while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Chumthang Shannapung in Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai, Imphal West in February.

At the occasion, the chief minister stated that the government was leaving no stones unturned to elevate sports in Manipur.

The underlying objective of the push is to inculcate a good lifestyle and completely eradicate the issue of drug menace among youths in the state, Biren had said.
