The Manipur Chess Development Association (MCDA) has feted medal winning players of the recently concluded 52nd Regional Sports Meet (Chess) 2023 held at Duliajan in Assam.
The players who were felicitated at MCDA office are Pretty Thokchom (KVS Akhampat) of Koirou Thongju Part 2 Imphal East, who claimed the gold medal in the U-14 category; Nungshithoi Ngairangbam (KVS Langjing) of Ningomthong Bazar, Imphal East also bagged a gold in U-17 category and Ningthoujam Ibemsana Devi (KVS Lamphel) of Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai, took the gold medal in U-19 category.
By virtue of her win, N Ibemsana Devi has qualified for the KVS National Sports Meet (Chess) 2023.
Rozee Leimapokpam (KVS Lamphel) of Khurai Thangjam Leikai and Lanchenbee Ngairangbam (KVS Akhampat) of Ningomthong Bazar claimed a silver and a bronze medal in the meet.
Meanwhile, the MCDA will be organising a selection tournament on September 9 and 10 at its Indoor Hall, Baldev Building Uripok Khoisnam Leikai to pick up players for the 21st North East FIDE Rating Chess Championship 2023 from October 21-27 at Dree Ground, Papu Nallah, Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh.
Players can get further details at the MCDA office on or before September 8 from 10 am to 4 pm, according to Laishram Atembi, Secretary, MCDA.
