The Kuki Sporting Club of Kangpokpi on Wednesday defeated Golngai FC by a goal to nil and were crowned the champions of the State Level Zomi Nam Ni Platinum Jubilee Cup, 2023 at Lamka Public Ground.
Being the winners, they walked away with a cheque of Rs 3 Lakh (the highest ever in the district), a trophy and citation; Golngai FC were awarded Rs 1 lakh.
The closing ceremony & Final Match of the SLZNPJC 2023 was grace as Chief Guest by Minister Yumnam Khemchand with GS Haupu as the chief host, MLA of Churachandpur LM Khaute as guest of honour and MLA and Adviser to the CM, Vungzagin Valte as functional president.
The KSC started as favourites of the final match but both teams failed to score in the first half. However, Haotinsem of KSC scored in the 55th minute which turned out to be the winning goal. He was also awarded the Joy's Enterprise Man of the Match prize.
The tournament witnessed 14 top teams of the district while two invited teams, Kuki Sporting Club and Sagolband United, were invited to the tournament.
Paokhongam of UKM was the top scorer of the tournament with 4 fours, Albenson from Football 4 Change was the best player, Khaiminlien Haokip of Golngai FC as the best goalkeeper. All the individual awards came with Adidas football boots and a cash price of Rs 3000 each.
