First Rani Gaidinliu Sports and Cultural Programme kicks off in Manipur's Noney

The opening volleyball match was played between Khumji-2 (B) Teams Vs Longmai-3 (B) Teams and the match was won by Longmai-3 (B) Teams.

The three-day first Rani Gaidinliu Sports and Cultural Programme kicked off at Longmai common ground in Manipur's Noney district on Tuesday.

The programme was organised by Rongmei Naga Luh Phwam Manipur under the theme - ‘Reignite the Glory’. It was attended by Tourism Minister Oinam Lukhoi as chief guest.

Speaking at the occasion, Lukhoi said that organising a women’s sports and cultural programme was a great effort and promoting them brings great changes. He encouraged all the team participants to strengthen and promote women empowerment in the field of sports and any cultural and social activities.

BJP state executive Gaidon Kamei also attended the event as guest of honour in the presence of Naga Women Union president Asah Wungnam; Rongmei Naga Luhphuam Manipur president Chamdanliu Kamei; Rongmei Naga Council Manipur president Ramkung Pamei and other special dignitaries.

Special songs and cultural dances were performed by several artistes.

During the opening programme, a parade competition was held with participation from Khoupum Luangrian, Tamenglong Luangrian, Longmai Luangrian, Oinamlong Luangrian and Nungba Luangrian.

Volleyball match, parade and Cultural dance were the main highlights of the event on the opening day. As many as 31 volleyball teams registered for the event. Declaration of tournament and hoisting of flag was done by the chief guest.

Chamdanliu Kamei said the event was organised to promote and safeguard the cultural identity of the Rongmei tribe and keep the flame of Rani Gaidinliu alive.
