Lambung YCC made it to the pre-quarter final, beating Kankhu Athletic FC by 7-6 goals during penalty shootout after both teams were tied with 2-2 goals in normal time on Tuesday in the DC Chandel Trophy Football Tournament 2021 organised by DSA Chandel at Liwa Sarei Football Ground.

It was a hard toiled first half play but neither team could bring up any score, rendering the first half goaless. However, the real action started after seventy minute of play with Kankhu Athletic getting the opening goal from a penalty. Leopa made no mistake in converting the goal for the lead in the 71st minute.

But Lambung YCC picked up speed, seeking the equaliser and it was LH Sheipa who squeezed through the defence to push home the equaliser in the 76th minute. Boosted by the goal, Lambung YCC increased the rally and two minute later, Angnahring chipped home, the leading goal in the 79th minute.

As the tempo of the game heated up, Kankhu Athletic built up a strong attack and it was Leopa again, who struck in the 79th minute to level 2-2 goals to hold on till the final whistle, leading to kicks from penalty mark. Lambung players Angnahring, Phowlpe and Kankhu player Richard, Nohrin got a yellow card in the match.

The penalty shootout saw Lambung YCC converting all five kicks while Kankhu Athletic missed one shot with Leopa mistimed it for the sad exit today.

In the other matches, Liwa Khullen YC prevailed upon Chandel Police FC by 6-5 goals during penalty shootout to enter the pre-quarter final as well. Tied with 2-2 goals during normal time play, the kicks from the penalty mark saw Liwa Khullen getting the better of its opponent.

The third penalty shootout of the day saw Chandel Khullen YC outwitting Western Soldong FC by 7-4 goals as both teams were locked with 3-3 goals during normal time.

Liwachaning YCC beat Charangching Khullen YC by 4-1 goals to enter the pre-quarter final of the tournament.
