The Churachandpur United Club Organisation (CUCO) on Saturday organised its Annual Sports Meet 2023 at Peace Ground, Tuibong, Churachandpur, introducing Polo and Mukna (Wrestling) for the first time.
The event was graced by Churachandpur AC MLA LM Khaute as chief guest, H Jugindro Meetei as guest of honour and SK Mangang as functional president.
Apart from usual sports disciplines such as football and Tug Of War, CUCO added Polo and Mukna in the annual sports meet, the first time since it was held in Churachandpur District.
‘Polo’, new to the district in terms of being a discipline in sports meet in the district, the first game was played Between Moirang Polo club and Maj Karan Polo Club, which was more like an exhibition match.
The chief guest lauded the effort of CUCO leadership which led to the sports being organised today stating that the items of games at the sports meet prompted him to rush from Imphal after the assembly session ended on Saturday.
Especially the Polo games, the MLA said, was confined to the capital city of Imphal till today and was played today at Churachandpur, a step forward as Polo is a famous game all over the world, where countries like Argentina, UK had also come to play at Imphal. The chief guest also stressed on the need to encourage the sport which will promote the game and breeding of Pony or Sagol leading to its conservation.
