16 students to represent Manipur in national Yoga Olympiad

237 students representing the various districts across the state took part in the 7th State Level Yoga Olympiad 2022 which concluded on Saturday.

Eight winning boys and eight winning girls (altogether 16 students) from both upper primary and secondary school level of the 7th State Level Yoga Olympiad 2022 have been selected to represent Manipur in the National Council of Educational Research and Training’s (NCERT’s) Yoga Olympiad 2022.

The 7th State Level Yoga Olympiad 2022 that was held at the campus of Johnstone Higher Secondary School in Imphal West concluded on Saturday.

The state level Olympiad which was organised by the directorate of Education (S) was taken part by 237 students representing the various districts across the state.

Attending as the chief guest of the valedictory function, director of Education (S) L Nandakumar said that yoga is the medium to synchronise the body and the mind.

Regular practice of yoga helps in relieving stress, improves concentration power and prevents various diseases, he said, adding that it also tightens the bond between nature and humans.

The director also expressed his gladness to witness that a large number of youths are practicing yoga which is indeed a good sign of a healthy society.

As a part of the event, a special yoga demonstration was showcased by the players of Yoga Physique Institute and Studies, Manipur.

As per sources, the national Yoga Olympiad is scheduled to be kicked off on June 18 at the national capital (New Delhi) and will conclude on June 20.

The initiative to organise the national Olympiad was taken up by the ministry of HRD through NCERT to promote Yoga in curriculum and transaction in schools.

The function was also attended by additional director of Education (S/Valley) Bisheshwar Khumukcham and additional director of Education (S/Hills) Seiminthang Lenthang as president and guest of honour respectively.
