Bethsaida Jr. High School lauded
All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has lauded Bethsaida Junior High School located in Bethsaida village, Kangpokpi district, for functioning well and the number of students enrolled despite of pathetic infrastructures and basic necessities.
During the annual tour to educational institutions in the hill districts of the State, a team of ATSUM led by its Education Secretary, Kakai Singsit visited two of the four identified schools of Kangpokpi District under CM.N. Biren Singh’s coveted educational program of ‘School Phagat Hansi’ along with few other educational institutions in the district today.
The ATSUM team visited Kangpokpi Govt. High School at Kangpokpi DHQs and Motbung Govt. High School at Motbung village an identified schools under “School Phagat Hansi’ and interacted with the teaching staffs and students while taking stock of their problems and limitations. Later, they also visited Presidency Collage Motbung and Bethsaida Junior High School.
The team reportedly found lack of proper facilities including shortage of staff and other infrastructure at Presidency College Motbung which is the only Government College in the entire district with around1500 students being enrolled in the college for higher studies.
Speaking to the media, education secretary of ATSUM, Kakai Singsit, “We are extremely elated to see Presidency College and other educational institutions especially the Government run schools in Kangpokpi district are slowly limping back to activity,” adding that compared to last year, the number of students that have enrolled this year is a good sign.
“We could come across sizeable number of students taking classes and it is surely a good sign and we would like to enthuse the teaching and non-teaching staffs and as well as the students to exert collective efforts in transforming the college into a centre of excellence,” he said. However, he maintained that apart from the limitations, the absence of proper fencing should address immediately by the concerned authority considering the vast negative impact in the functioning and administration of the college and in the larger interest of the raising student community.
Kakai Singsit also said that Bethsaida Junior High School having classes from Nursery to Class VIII is the school which has caught the fancy of ATSUM with its significant number of students and proper functioning despite the pathetic condition of the school building and its infrastructures.
“We feel really embarrassed and unfortunate to see such huge number of students in a Government school confined in a very small room owing to shortage of sufficient rooms while the school building itself is also constructed by the villagers themselves with their voluntary contribution and donation,” he continued while urging the State government and authority concerned to have sympathetic consideration for the plight of the poor students of the school who could not afford costly private schools. He also made an appeal to provide sufficient rooms for classes Nursery to VIII including a teacher’s common room, administration room, library room, kitchen, water tank and sanitary facilities so that they can have proper education with proper infrastructures.
Kakai Singsit further asserted that due to the relentless and collective efforts of all the executives of ATSUM, Kangpokpi district has been awarded four schools in the coveted program of ‘School Phagat Hansi’ viz. Motbung Govt. High School, T. Vaichong Govt. High School, Thangtong Hr. Sec. School where as inclusion of Kangpokpi Govt. High School was rife with many twists and turns.
