Gaikhangam refutes rumours of Congress MLAs planning to join BJP
‘Mission 2022 will bring absolute majority for Cong in Assembly’
IMPHAL | Aug 18
State Congress president, Gaikhangam today refuted the rumours that some MLAs of Manipur Congress will join Bharatiya Janata Party by categorically stating that there are no such issues in the party. He announced that ‘mission 2022 will bring absolute majority for the Congress in the coming general assembly election.
He was speaking to media on the sidelines of the programme during the one-day booth level interaction programme held today at 3/8 Kangla Sangomsang, Imphal East. The programme was organised by Khurai Block Congress Committee.
He claimed that it is the habitual nature of BJP to throw blame and spread rumours against Congress party in order to hide their own internal issues. The seven MLAs who were elected from Congress and later joined BJP have now started regretting for their wrongful decision taken without a second thought, he said.
“MLAs who are elected as leaders have the ability to take decision for their betterment, but considering the prevailing scenario of the government who would like to join the BJP party?” he questioned.
The rumours are spread with the attempt to destabilise the Congress party, he said. However, it will be futile for the political party which is spreading rumours through cheap politics, he added.
“State Congress party will remain as strong as before, we do not take the rumours seriously as it is their usual tactics,” Gaikhangam asserted.
Responding to media regarding restoration of portfolio without enquiry report, Gaikhangam said the enquiry report on portfolios should be kept in public domain in order to find out those who are involved in misusing the state finance. Distorting of rules and regulations is disappointing and it creates confusion. Political parties including state Congress has urged for conducting an enquiry and to place its report at public domain, he added.
It is reported that a huge amount of funds had been misused, he said. If possible, the enquiry committee should be headed by a retired high court of Manipur judge. Restoring portfolio without completing an inquiry might result in losing trust from the public but chief minister, Biren has the power to take the steps, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress president said interaction programmes are organised as the party has stated that in order to strengthen it, interactions are needed not from higher level but from the grassroot level
He said that political strength can be made after hearing the grievances faced by the workers in grassroot level. He said there are 60 MLA seats and out of the total, Congress will get absolute majority by winning 45 seats in the coming general assembly election. Such booth level interaction programme is first of its kind in the entire nation and has been carried out to strengthen the party, said Gaikhangam.
The present state government has completed its rule about one year but since then no flagship programme has been taken yet due to lack of funds, he said. Instead of conducting “go to village” or “go to hills,” the government need “go to Delhi” to get financial package for the welfare of Manipur, he said.
After abrogation of article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) will also be implemented in December parliamentary session. He urged the present government not to impose a dictatorial form of government.
