Independence only an outward show, public still lacks freedom: Th. Radeshyam
THOUBAL| Aug 16
The 73rd Independence Day of India was held on August 15 at Mini Secretariat Complex, Thoubal, organised by the District Administration.
In his address as chief guest of the occasion, Education minister, Thokchom Radheshyam asserted that the “Independence” obtained by the citizens of the country is only an outwards show as the citizens are reeling from “imprisonment” from various problems such as poverty and unemployment amongst others.
“The Indians obtained independence from British imperialism 73 years back; but it is only an out ward show as most of the country’s citizens lack independence or freedom from the shackles of unemployment, lack of education and employment opportunities, economic development and health facilities amongst others,” he said .
It is most unfortunate that the citizens cannot even realise the joy of freedom even though the country has shed the yokels of colonialism 73 years back, he lamented while adding that the Independence being celebrated today is only “Physical Independence” as successive governments have failed to develop the country in almost every sphere including health care, education and employment etc. “The governments have failed to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of the founding fathers for a progressive and developed society,” he asserted.
While praising PM, NarendraModi for his iniatiatives in developing the nation, ThRadheshyam also stated that under him, India is steadily becoming a truly developed and independent country.
In regards to Manipur, he stated that under the leadership of CM, N. Biren has inaitiated several “people oriented” schemes meant for the development of the State while also adding an appeal not to disrupt the developmental programmes and schemes.
The Education minister further lauded the efforts of Thoubal District police for its ongoing drive to combat the menace of drugs in the State. He also appealed for public support and cooperation in making the State and the whole country developed and independent in every sphere.
As a part of the programme, Th. Radeshyam hoisted the Tricolour; whileSDPO, Thoubal, M. Bisworjit, as parade commander took the honour of salute from the 21 contingents who took in the March-Past parade.
