Rani Gaidinliu Women Market to be functional by August 15TAMENGLONG | Aug 6
The Rani Gaidinliu Women Market Tamenglong would be handed over to the DC of Tamenglong within two days, while the remaining works including the retaining wall, toilet block and drinking water tank will be handed over later after their completion within September.
This was stated by assistant engineer of Police Housing Corporation Ltd, Sanajaoba during a joint inspection conducted by the district administration headed by SDO Tamenglong, Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei along with media personnel of the district.
Mentioned may be made here that the inspection was conducted after the IFP conducted investigations and published a report on the lack of construction activities on August 3.
Sanajaoba also clarified that the screws have been tightened in regard to the complaints of leaking water from the roofing while also adding that the missing fans have also been replaced and all necessary cleaning has been conducted too.
Regarding the lack of a safety tank for the toilet block, he assured that a proper safety tank would be made near the toilet building and would be completed within September. “All constructions including the retaining wall and toilet block would be completed within September,” he said while also instructing the labourers to wash the sand properly.
In a reply to a query, Sanajaoba stated that the Police Housing Corporation Ltd. has taken up ten projects including construction of transit hostel for teachers and nurses which are all in good progress.
It may also be recalled that the Rani Gaidinliu Women Market Tamenglong which was inaugurated on 30 October, 2018 has not been fully completed and is yet to be handover for public use till date. The construction work for the 200- seated capacity women's vendor market was taken up by Police Housing Corporation as the work agency with a budget of Rs 6.4 crores. Even though the main building has been completed; the toilet block and retaining walls however remains incomplete. Interestingly, there is also no safety water tank even though construction of the toilet block building has been almost completed.
In the meantime, SDO Tamenglong, Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei informed that as per government instruction, the Rani Gaidinliu Women Market will be functional by August 15. He also mentioned that the Police Housing Corporation Ltd is going to hand over only the main building adding that the incomplete construction of the retaining wall, toilets block and water tank will not be acceptable at this time. “For the market to start functioning, toilets and urinals are a must; and during a meeting, construction of temporary toilets and urinals in the area was discussed minutely,” Kachamthai said.
In regard to the dilapidated conditions of the approach road, SDO Tamenglong stated that Police Housing Corporation Ltd has nothing to do with the road. “The district administration will tie up with PWD and will do repairing works,” he added.
