Sanitation movement cum tree plantation programme kicks off
MLA of 44-Ukhrul Constituency, Alfred Kanngam Arthur today kicked-off the Ukhrul Town Sanitation Movement cum Tree Plantation Programme in a ceremony held at Town Hall, Ukhrul.
Addressing a 1000-strong crowd comprising school students, teachers and public leaders, the MLA said, “I am glad that this movement is involving the student community who should be aware of their bounden duties in protecting trees and conserving the environment. “Unless you learn it from your heart with passion, you cannot expect to be taught to keep our environment clean and safe,” he said.
While advising the students to inculcate the habit of protecting ecology in every possible way they can, he also stated that “When an individual takes care of the environment around them, they take part in the contributions towards ecology maintenance of the whole community.”
Alfred also stressed on the importance of ecology and forest in human life sating that it doesn’t matter how much we have excelled in every other fields as life would be worthless without trees. “Without green lives, there will be no water to sustain human lives on this planet,” he cautioned.
While citing the problem of frequent water scarcity in Ukhrul, the MLA also expressed amazement at the situation saying, “Our district is known as one of the most rainfall sufficient places in the state but it is frequently facing scarcity of water.”
Alfred also questioned how long the residents of the town in buying waters spending huge amounts of money while cautioning the public that that unless there is an effort to conserve trees and forests are there will not be even a single a drop of water to buy. He further called upon the people to work together for collective growth of the society and not as individuals in isolation.
The programme which was organised by All Hunphun Tang Association (AHTA) under the sponsorship of 44-Ukhrul Constituency MLA, Alfred Kanngam Arthur, was attended by DFO Ukhrul Shanngam Shaliwo; headman, Hunphun HA, Sarimaya and president of PARS, Alex Khayi along with chairmen and secretaries of 27 localities within the jurisdiction of Hunphun and school children from various institutions of Ukhrul headquarters.
Later, Alfred Kanngam Arthur planted a sapling at the premise of Ava Market (Women’s Market) Phungreitang, Ukhrul. And the programme was attended by DFO Ukhrul Shanngam, Shaliwo; headman Hunphun HA, Sarimaya; president of PARS, Alex Khayi; chairmen and secretaries of 27 localities within the jurisdiction of Hunphun and school children from various institutions at Ukhrul Headquarter.
Secretary of AHTA Khamung Mashangva further informed that the association is targeting to planting around 15000 saplings in coordination with the 27 localities in the month of July.
