‘Fair price shop automation’ introduced to maintain transparency in distribution of PDS items
With the objective of maintaining transparency and to minimizing leakages in distribution of PDS items, chief minister, Nongthombam Biren today launched the fair price shop (FPS) automation during a function held at the chief minister’s secretariat.
The chief minister observed that FPS automation would bring transparency in distribution of PDS items, thereby ensuring that entitled food grains reach the deserved beneficiaries as the beneficiaries will be receiving the entitled food grains through Electronic Point of Sales (ePOS) device with proper authentication using documents like Aadhaar card.
Various issues pertaining to the distribution like use of fake ration cards, leakages, etc. can be prevented and minimised under the system, he said while adding that fake and bogus cards would be easily identified. Besides leakages can be avoided and one individual taking the share of several other beneficiaries can also be prevented, stated the chief minister.
Biren maintained that for the first phase, FPS automation system with the use of ePOS would be made available in 10 FPS at Mayang Imphal, Keishamthong, Langthabal, Konthoujam, Lamshang, Heingang, Oinam, Thoubal, Wangkhem and Kangpokpi assembly constituencies.
While noting that there are 2324 fair price shops and 23, 87,949 beneficiaries with 5, 69,688 ration cards in the State, the CM said that the facility of the FPS automation system will be rolled out gradually in all the other remaining FPS. The monthly allocation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) rice for Manipur is 131632.45 quintals covering 83.67 percent of the population out of 87 percent eligible under NFSA, he mentioned.
Director, CAF and PD, Ranjan Yumnam asserted that the system will facilitate proper targeting of subsidy and reduce pilferage and diversion of food grains throughout PDS value chain in addition to improving stakeholder convenience with reducing system complexity and increase ease of operations.
The officials also made a demonstration on the usage of the ePOS machine during the function, which was attended by deputy chief minister, Y. Joykumar along with ministers, L. Jayantakumar, Karam Shyam, Th. Shyamkumar, Losii Dikho, V. Hangkhanlian and Letpao Haokip among other MLAs, chief secretary, commissioners, DCs, director and officials of CAF and PD, and agents of FPS.
