Mass sit-in staged at Khurai assembly constituency against MLA’s decision to resign
Demanding the present MLA of Khurai, L Susindro to withdraw his decision on resignation from the post of MLA, locals of Khurai assembly constituency today staged a mass sit-in-protest at various locations of the assembly constituency.
Locals of the assembly constituency staged sit-in at 24 places inside the assembly constituency on the same demand.
Speaking to media, one of the protestors of Khabeisoi, identified as Basirudin said people of Khabeisoi strongly condemned the bomb attack on MLA Susindro’s residence last Thursday. “As much as we condemn the bombing, we will also never agree to the statement of MLA, to resign from his MLAship. He was elected by the people of the constituency to be the voice of the people, for the assembly constituency,” Basirudin said.
The authority concerned must book the culprit(s) immediately and the culprits involved in the incident must also clarify to the public about the bomb attack, he added.
Another protestor who staged sit-in at AAA community hall, Hijam Krishnapriya of Kongpal Kongkham leikai said the public of the constituency strongly condemned the attack at the residence of its MLA, Leishangthem Susindro.
She said Susindro was doing his duty to bring welfare and to get proper beneficiary on rice which has been pending for six months. But instead of issuing the pending rice to be distributed under National Food Security Act, some miscreants planted a bomb at the residence of MLA, she added.
Later in the evening, Khurai women vendors along with public of the constituency stormed the residence of Susindro located at Khurai Sajor Leikai demanding to withdraw the decision of MLA for his resignation from MLAship.
Speaking to media, spokesperson of Union of Social Upliftment, Khurai, Muhindro Waikhom said Susindro was elected by the people of the constituency to be the voice of the constituency and also to bring development in the constituency. The demand of public on withdrawal of decision on resignation is firm and will not change, he added.
“In this situation, government should not remain silent and public condemned the government for not taking legitimate steps to book the culprits on time. If the government fail to book the culprits immediately, people of the constituency will intensify the movement,” he cautioned.
Meanwhile MLA L. Susindro said he is aware of the fact people of his constituency elected him as its representative. However he also seems determined on his decision and said that the deadline of resignation is tomorrow and that his decision will remain unchanged.
